Young Company perform live cinema adaptation of 'Doctor Jekyll & Mr Hyde'
In July our Stalks Young Company presented their latest show, our own adaptation of Robert Lois Stevenson's 'The Strange Case of Doctor Jekyll and Mr Hyde' at the Bristol Improv Theatre. This was presented in a 'Live Cinema' style, where performers operated live feed video cameras to bring this Gothic thriller to life on both stage and screen as we questioned; 'What is theatre?' 'What is cinema?' and 'Can the two be blended to enhance the audience experience?'.
Summer School 2024!
Twenty five of Rhubarb's current, past and (new!) students joined us at Portishead Youth & Community Centre and Portishead Primary School in August as we teamed up with Musical Theatre Vocal Coach Rachel Mason to create our own version of 'Little Shop of Horrors' in just three days!
Summer Term Projects 2024.
This term is a busy one at Rhubarb HQ, with many different projects happening. Our Seedlings are presenting their own adaptation of 'The Tin Forest' by Helen Ward. Our Sprouts are presenting their own adaptation of 'Oliver Twist' by Charles Dickens. Our Shoots are using greenscreen technology to make their own original film called'The house of Nightmares' and our Stalks Young Company are using live feed video cameras to make a 'live cinema' adaptation of'The Strange Case of Doctor Jekyll & Mr Hyde' by Robert Lois Stevenson. All of which will be shared in the summer of 2024!
Christmas Panto 2023!
In December 2023, our 'Shoots' and Stalks Young Company joined forces to present Rhubarb's first original Pantomime; 'The Hotel Cabbage'. Performed for the rest of the school and their families, the show (written by our very own Jon Attwood!) was a roaring success with much laughter, custard pies and inflatable dinosaurs!
Christmas Fundraisers 2023.
Last Christmas, we hosted a charity fundraiser. Through collecting donations at our Christmas shows; 'The Lighthouse Keeper's Lunch' 'Peter Pan' and 'The Hotel Cabbage' we collected an amazing £330.10 for Great Ormond Street Hospital. Thank you to our Rhubee's and their families for such generosity and support.
Young company performs H.G. Well's 'The War of the Worlds'
In July 2023 our Young Company took on their biggest challenge yet, they performed their very own adaptation of H.G. Well's 'The War of the Worlds'. This Promenade performance, based at The Bristol Improv Theatre Clifton involved the audience travelling through six different rooms / locations as they experienced the Martian Invasion first hand.
